- Ongoing armed conflict (such as civil war).
- Natural disaster.
- Other extraordinary and temporary conditions.
Individuals will have the following benefits during the period approved for temporary protection::
- Can obtain an Employment Authorization Document (EAD).
- Cannot be removed from the United States.
- Can obtain travel authorization.
This is the list of Latin American countries currently subject to TPS. This list may change depending on the conditions above.
Considering this, a TPS pauses any current status that you may have, acting like a remote control. There are several groups; the following image shows the features of each group and the action of the TPS that puts a STOP to the process.
On December 9, 2020, USCIS automatically extended the validity of TPS documents for El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Haiti. We encourage you to stay up to date in terms of reforms to the TPS and all changes of dates made by immigration.
